Tips For A Healthy Thanksgiving!
Tips For A Healthy Thanksgiving:
1. Get enough sleep! Make sure to get a solid 8 hours the night before Thanksgiving. A tired body is often hungrier than normal.
2. Eat Breakfast! This will keep you satisfied throughout the day and making you less likely to binge when you finally sit down for dinner. Shakeology would be a great breakfast idea!
3. Drink water! Drinking water throughout the day makes you more immune to random feelings of hunger. Your mind can often confuse the feeling of dehydration with hunger, and can lead to unnecessary snacking throughout the day.
5. Alcohol has calories! Don’t forget this! Drinking can start early on Thanksgiving, and it’s easy to forget that each glass of wine has a significant 120 calories, but don't be afraid to indulge a little.
7. Eat before you indulge! Don't starve yourself during the early part of Thanksgiving Day, with the idea that you're just "saving room" for all the food, or that this will make it okay for you to overeat later.
6. Stick to healthy portions! Fill up 1/2 plate with vegetables, fruit, and a whole grain roll, 1/4 of it with mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes, and 1/4 of it with turkey. The more colorful your plate, the better!
7. Wait 20 minutes before heading for seconds! This is typically how long it takes for your stomach to send the message to your brain that no more food is needed. So take a break from the meal, and if you still feel hungry, go back for a couple smaller portions of your Thanksgiving favorites.
8. Get a workout in! Even if it’s just some time to yourself to take a 20-minute walk around the neighborhood, getting active on Thanksgiving Day can help you de-stress and handle the day a little better. Getting those endorphins flowing is important to your mental health, and you’ll feel a little better about all those mashed potatoes on your plate after some good exercise.
8. Save room for dessert! If you’re a dessert lover, make sure to keep a little room in your stomach for the final course. If you're going for the pie, pick fruit or pumpkin pies because they tend to have fewer calories than chocolate or pecan pies.
